Daylight Savings Success
As the flowers start to creep up and sunshine warms us through the window, we anticipate the long-awaited shift to Daylight Saving Time. Lighter later, for better or worse, might bring a tweak or two to your child’s sleep schedule in the coming weeks. But don’t worry, I’m here to help!
This week, start adjusting your child’s bedtime incrementally so that by Sunday, March 8th, they’re ready for an appropriate wake up.
Here’s a glimpse of a schedule adjustment that will help your family succeed and take the stress out of the upcoming weekend’s sleep habits:
The 30-minute earlier bedtime on Saturday will give your child time to decompress and get plenty of rest before “losing” an hour of sleep overnight. From that point on, try to maintain your original nap and nighttime schedule on the new adjusted time.
ALTERNATIVELY,
If you’re very “Type B” and like to wing it, I’ve seen families have great success with the cold turkey method. No prep work and a slightly sleepy kid on Monday usually still leads to normal routines on Tuesday.
All of that to say, If you ever worry about your child’s sleep quality, bedtime routine, or nap habits, I’m always available for a quick call to see if Mama’s Little Loves can help improve your family’s sleep hygiene or troubleshoot some speed bumps.
Happy sleeping!
